Issue # 6 – April 2010

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT –Tim Cupka

Well, it certainly wasn’t the year we were hoping for.  We missed just about every storm that was advertised.  Despite the low snow year we had some good open houses and memberships were not down too much.  We started with a great fundraiser with the Grass Drags breaking our all time record but unfortunately we were not able to have our favorite one (Winter Carnival).  Lisa has some fundraisers and fun events lined up for the off season and we are looking for ideas for additional ones.  If anyone has a suggestion, please email the club and we’ll give it a shot. It is important, with the start up costs every year, to try to accumulate funds in the off season; so if you can find the time to attend these fundraisers we would love to see you there.  We will list them on the website calendar as soon as we get them in order.  We’ve scheduled the Annual Banquet for Saturday May 1st at the River’s Edge Tavern (Indian Mound Golf Course) and it will once again be catered by the Yankee Smoke House.  Last year’s meal was fantastic, so if you missed it here’s your chance.  Next month’s general meeting is our last meeting and we will be voting in officers.  We urge everyone to try to make it.  If you would like to nominate someone for office or run yourself, please contact one of our Nominating Committee volunteers.  They are Fred Watson, Dave Sweeney and Ken Walden (see contact info below).  Have a safe and enjoyable summer and I hope to see you at the Banquet.

PROCEDURE REMINDER

We are in the process of putting together a slate of officers for next year.  Please remember that you must be an ACTIVE MEMBER of the Scrub Oak Scramblers Snowmobile Club for the season in which you wish to run for office.  The Board of Directors has defined an “Active Member” as an individual who has been a member who has attended at least 3 monthly meetings AND has 8 hours or more of service to the club for the season.  If you wish to run for an office, it is your responsibility to sign in at every meeting and/or service project.  Service may be hosting an Open House, volunteering at a fund raising event, grooming, etc.  Attending a fund raising event without volunteering to help will not count as service to the club.  If you have any questions, please contact Tim Cupka at 603-539-5077.  This year’s Nominating Committee consists of Fred Watson (603-520-1506; email watsonnh@msn.com), Dave Sweeney (603-367-9206 or 617-930-7335) and Ken Walden (603-367-1060; email kmatlake@roadrunner.com)  If you would like to run for an office or nominate someone else to run, please contact one of them as soon as possible.  Elections will be held at our monthly meeting in April.

PROPOSED BYLAW CHANGES

Listed below are a few proposed amendments to the current Scrub Oak Scramblers Snowmobile Club Bylaws.  We will be voting on these amendments at our General Meeting on April 17.  Please look them over--if you have any questions, contact Lisa Charrette at Charrettefloor@aol.com or 603-539-2733.

TRAIL MASTER’S REPORT Dave Charrette

Trails are closed for the season.

Once the mud season is over we will begin with Trail Maintenance with removing of snow fence, signs and other necessary repairs.  As of this writing we have not heard from the State about the RTP (Recreational Trails Program) grant. However, GIA (Grant in Aid) application is in process.  If anyone is not on the trail work party email list, contact Paul Savignano (email paulsav70@aol.com or call 603-367-9115).

Thank you to all those volunteers who made this season possible!
